KidsChallenge: informations

Idea

The KidsChallenge is a dance project for children who are enthusiastic about dance, in which they learn a selection of choreographies (e.g. at home, in in dance classes or sports clubs or similar) and compete in a competition.

Children love music and movement. They experience a sense of community with us and can also present the dances they have learned to a large audience.

We offer the children a large dance floor (parquet) where they can dance the choreographies they have learned as a competition with other children.

At the end, all children receive an award. No child goes away empty-handed. All are winners.

The children are evaluated by the jury and divided into 3 groups. They can win 1-3 stars for their performance. In this way, we avoid children from 6th place "only" going home with a certificate of participation. The stars can also be collected on a stamp card. There is a small surprise for every 7 stars collected.

Target Group

All children who enjoy dancing are invited. Registration is done by the parent/guardian.

About us

We are a non-profit association (I.D.E.A. e.V.) which promotes the sport of dance and organises workshops and competitions in this context. Together with the dance teachers Julia Oertel, Paul Steinborn and Leonie Sygo, we have developed a programme for children on behalf of the World Country Dance Federation (WCDF) to inspire young people to dance.

Date & Venue

March 2025

The time will be communicated after the registration deadline.

The KidsChallenge takes place within the international dance competition "BERLIN OPEN Dance Championships" and therefore offers the participating groups a very special atmosphere.

Venue: Stadthalle Hohen Neuendorf, Am Rathaus 1, 16540 Hohen Neuendorf.

Procedure
  • On arrival, the responsible accompanying person and the child/children will register at the registration desk.

  • Before the competition, the children will gather in the staging area. From there, depending on the number of registrations, they will be led in one or more groups to the dance floor.

  • There they will dance the dances they have learned individually with other participants on the dance floor.

  • The music is counted.

  • As a guide, they are accompanied by 2 dancers from our club.

  • Our trained judges evaluate the performance, but the fun should be in the foreground.

  • After one dance they leave the dance floor again accompanied and wait in the staging area for the next performance (if they dance several dances).

  • The award ceremony will take place about half an hour after the last competition round.

Dances

In the KidsChallenge, the competition is not divided into age categories. Instead, 3 challenges with different dances and levels are offered. The children decide (with the help of an adult if necessary) which dance(s) they like best and are good at and therefore which challenge they want to take part in (participation is only possible in one challenge).  Once they have made a decision, the children are registered for the corresponding challenge.
